Sealant Applicator System
Working with the U.S. Department of Defense, TIAX has developed a sealant applicator technology that can apply a highly-viscous sealant rapidly, reliably, and at a much reduced cost.
When aircraft manufacturers use “caulking guns” to apply a sealant to a fuel tank on an aircraft, often there is too little sealant and the tanks leak. Or there is too much sealant which results in excess weight. In addition, sealing fuel tanks can take up to a staff-year of labor per aircraft.
The sealant applicator system that allows for one-handed, semi-automatic application of a variety of high viscosity sealants, including those used on the fuselage of military aircraft. The system consists of two components: the compact handheld unit allows for easy application of sealant, and a remote base unit which controls the application and houses the majority of the hardware.
Benefits:
- Reduces application time.
- Generates a consistent bead that results in fewer leaks, adds less weight to the target, and eliminates excess sealant.
- Easily transportable to job sites.
- User friendly interface.
- Operates in a wide variety of facilities.
